| Dinner Theatre Monday. 6.9.08 5:01 pm I went to a dinner theatre the other day on the tip of a new friend of mine from the store. It was about an hour away, but for such a unique experience, it was really worth it. The drive was beautiful. Open land stretches out for miles, the grass which usually bears the dull gold color familiar from our school colors, had been transformed to a verdant green and over it all the sun gazed tossing blanket over light over hills and valley, the landscape causing it to wrinkle and curl. This, I remarked on, with far less poetry, over and over to my friend who accompanied me on my adventure. The landscape came to a stop giving way to much closer signs and buildings that told us that we had finally reached our destination: Centennial, population 100. The town looks like it was lifted from Frontier Land, except lifesized and far more real. We were greeted warmly the moment that we walked in the door. I politely asked where the dinner theatre was and we were sheparded forthwith to the dining area. We were seated at a community table with two couples, one a young couple, about our age and going to the university and another couple that used to work as teachers, but now were retired. I decided that it would be very awkward not to talk to them, so I ended up striking up a conversation with the table and by the end, we knew each other fairly well and I have to admit that I was very fond of them. The dinner was a choice between ribs and sirloin kabobs (and vegetable, but I didn't see anyone with that). I had the kabobs which were cooked with oinions and peppers on a metal kabob and served with a sharp auju which I found was excellent. I ate almost all of it but ended up requesting a box which I believe I ended up leaving there out of my own stupidity. The play was as funny as advertised. It was a play called the Foriegner, you may have heard of it. It is about a shy man, who admits to being fairly boring, who people are led to believe is a foriegner who cannot speak a word of English. Forced to keep up appearances, the now 'foriegner' begins to reinvent himself into a wilder and crazier character than his pervious self could have dreamed. I highly recommend it. In the end, I said goodbye to my new friends at the community table and set out, my headlights before me, to trek away from the warm spectacle I left behind and onward through the swathes of darkness. My friend and I agreed that it was a very fun adventure. 1 Comments. |
