| Speed Dating Friday. 4.11.08 11:08 pm It was snowing outside. I had been working on my project for graphic design non-stop since about 11 that day with a little bit of a stop for lunch and dinner. I was feeling guilty, even then, for ditching out on my shoelaces and tounges to go socialize, but I decided to push myself out there. It is a strange little event. When I first came down the steps I was overwhelmed by the number of people there! I didn't think there would be that many people like me who would be curious enough to go. I mean... you know what they say... you have to be desperate and people don't want to look like their desperate. I, for one, am insatiably human and thereby insatiably curious, particularily about the interactions between individuals. For those of you who are not familiar with the rules, they are as follows: 1. Sit in chairs 2. talk for two minutes 3. rotate when the bells rings 4. repeat from step one For us, both parties rotated... which, through leaving and place swaping and other strangeness, promptly collapsed. I think I like people, so I had a lot of fun. I love hearing what people are interested in and why they are interested in it and where they plan to go and where they are now. I could not remember anyone's name, of course, but it was interesting. I think the most interesting question I was asked was by one fellow (who's name I put down) who asked, for playing an instrument, would you ever want to have six fingers? I said no, that I wouldn't. I said that its more of a challenge to just work with five and I was just about to try to tell him about this scene in Gattaca when the buzzer rang. I think both of us were annoyed by it, particularily since now he has to watch a movie and I didn't get to finish my story. I will tell you. Gattaca is a world where people are genetically engineered to be the best of their possible genetic makeup. At one point in the film, they are walking by a theatre for someone who has six fingers on his hands. He is playing a classical piece that musicians play today, I can't remember what it is called, but the woman says that it can only be played by a six fingered person. I guess then, I thought that dealing with five fingers really stretches a person's potential and if you can do anything with five fingers, why ask for six? Would you have six fingers? 3 Comments. No... I don't know what I'd do with the sixth. Couldn't give the middle finger anymore. :P I saw Gattaca (GATTACA?) a couple of years ago in my Biology class. » randomjunk on 2008-04-12 12:16:53 i wanted to try out speed dating but for the fun of expanding my networking... nothing more than that so i didn't join in case people get annoyed by my objective. » renaye on 2008-04-12 01:44:04 hmmm I haven't watched that movie.. I might just watch it for the piece of classical music. Btw, going speed dating isn't bad and who knows u might just find the right person for you there.
